“To travel is to live” – Hans Christian Andersen
Who hasn’t wanted to go to San Diego simply to get to say “You stay classy, San Diego” whilst waving out the window of your super awesome campervan heading to Vegas under a sunset painted sky? I know that was a longwinded sentence, but isn’t it true?
Well, there are plenty more reasons to go. It is a place of cultural diversity, entertainment and good food. Little Italy boasts delicious food and drinks and the really awesome Ballast Point Brewery that lets the staff design their own craft beer to sell in the bar! The National Comedy Theatre offers a great quick-witted improv comedy show, and Balboa Park offers a wonderful escape from city life. The city also lies right on the water for fun water activities or burgers and chips at Seaport Village and is also close to large outlet shopping malls and the Mexican border.
The famous San Diego Zoo offered an amazing array of well looked after animals in a beautifully landscaped zoo. It was a great place to explore and I discovered my new favourite animal! The Okapi comes from the tropical mountain forests of central Africa and looks like a zebra x giraffe with the most adorable looking ears!
The zoo lies in Balboa Park where one can find a large variety of building of differing architecture, a Japanese garden, a theatre, museums, restaurants etc. It is definitely worth a visit and one could spend several days checking it all out. We hoola-hooped with the hoola-hoop man and has lunch under the big trees.
The historic Gaslamp Quarter is the area to go for eating out, drinking in bars and clubbing and is also the home to several festivals and other events throughout the year. It has over 100 places to go out in a 16.5 block area and has something for everyone. It was alive and buzzing regardless of what day it was.
Next stop… the craziness that is Las Vegas!!!
