At the beach, life is different, time doesn’t move from hour to hour, but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides, and follow the sun – Unknown
What are your thoughts on waking up only meters from one of the famous beaches in the LA area in your own personal campervan? I loved it! We spent a couple of days streetside camping at Newport beach in Orange County. We enjoying a casual morning swim and breakfast by the beach and in the evening we walked along the boulevard and the pier and watced the sun set with a glass of wine in hand.
One morning I had an interesting encounter with a sea lion. I was heading into the water for a swim when it suddenly lunged out of the water up onto the sand chasing a fish! I must have surprised it as much as it surprised me, because it dropped the fish, glared at me for the interruption and disappeared seamlessly into the water. It was one of those moments I wish I’d captured on camera. But at the same time am also glad that I didn’t because it was such a surreal authentic moment that would have been ruined by having a lens in the way.
A little further south in Orange County lies Laguna Beach. It was much more than a set for trashy reality TV shows. The town centre was delightful and quaint, with a strong artistic community, boutique shopping, cafes and a lovely beach. There was a really nice cliff walk with impressive landscaping and sculptures that stretched from the north end of the beach. It was definitely worth a quick stop before we headed to San Diego.
