“Magic bus day” – Alexander Supertramp

This is where the real journey began. We swapped out our small cute Chev for a Ford “Maverick” van from Escape Campers that would be our home for the next two months. The company has a few collection places scattered around the country and offer a large variety of individually painted campervans. Ours had been given the very original name of “Splatter” but we decided to rename her “Van Diesel” (despite the fact that she ran on petrol, but Van Petrol just didn’t have the same ring to it). We picked her up in LA, and dropped her off in Miami and we avoided the one-way fee by renting for over 60 days.

Equipped with a fold down bed in the back and a small kitchenette accessible through the back doors (gas stove, fridge and sink) we drove through 24 states over 13000km from mid November 2014 to mid January 2015. By sleeping on the side of the road in safe-looking suburbs or at highway rest stops it was a great way to see the country on a budget. And the freedom and flexibility it gives you is great! I am so excited to be recounting the rest of the journey through this blog and reliving the amazing adventure we had, thank-you for following!
